It looks like a really dark, dark greyish violet   when there isn't 'proper' lighting. You can definitely see the violet up close though, but the person would really have to be way in your personal bubble!

I'd definitely recommend anyone that has a lighter eye color to get these, but hazel and darker probably won't show up as good.
